About the Minister
Bro. Eddie W. Sorrell, Sr.
Evangelist/ Minister

At the age of 25, Eddie Sorrell’s life was drastically changed. He was baptized by the late Jim Henry Warren and from that day knew he had to tell everyone about the Lord.

After five years of working diligently for the Lord in 1980, Brother Sorrell began preaching the gospel. His ministry career began as youth minister of the Division Street Church of Christ in Biloxi, MS. From Biloxi, he began working as evangelist at the North Gulfport Church of Christ in Gulfport, MS in 1986. While at North Gulfport he started a prison ministry and a radio program locally.

In 1995, Bro. Sorrell migrated back to his roots in North Mississippi. He began work with the Sunflower Church of Christ in Booneville, MS.  There maintained a television ministry for seven years entitled, The Naked Truth. He also completed his religious studies at the School of Religious Studies in Moss Point, MS that same year.

In 2002, Bro. Sorrell returned to the Gulf Coast as minister of the Helveston Road Church of Christ, formerly Dewey Street Church of Christ in Hattiesburg, MS. The congregation sponsors a weekly radio ministry on 92.1 FM and 1580 WORV, a television show on Foxx 25, and a convalescent home ministry at two centers in Hattiesburg. He has implemented a door knocking program at the congregation and has a team of people who go into various communities to spread God’s word reguarly. During his tenure at the congregation, he along with Minister David Jackson wrote The 25 Plus Plan, a guide for congregations to assist building membership.

His goal is to turn Hattiesburg and its surrounding counties upside down preaching and teaching the word of God. His motto is “Faithfulness is Required.”

During his ministry, Bro. Sorrell taught and baptized over 600 souls.

Not only has Bro. Sorrell been on the battlefield for the Lord, but he is also an Army and Air Force Reserve Veteran and business owner. From owning a skating rink to a convenience store to a construction business, he is a jack of all trades. His education spans from Northeast Mississippi Community College in Physical Education, Mississippi Valley State University in Business Administration, and Jefferson Davis Community College in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.

He has been happily married to Bertha for 34 years and they have been blessed with four children and three grand-daughters.

Regardless of whether Bro. Sorrell is preaching, playing sports, volunteering, or construction work, he always seeks “first the kingdom of God.”
